Resource Tuner ships with the UPX Unpacker plug-in. This is a start-up processing plug-in for unpacking files compressed with UPX (http://upx.sourceforge.net).

When you open a file with Resource Tuner, the UPX Unpacker plug-in detects whether a file is packed with UPX, and if so, this file will be unpacked automatically. The resulted file will also be saved unpacked. Resource Tuner does not re-pack the previously packed files back to the exact original size.

The UPX Unpacker displays lines of messages at the bottom log window as follows:

Resource Tuner unpacks only files compressed with UPX. The UPX Unpacker plug-in works on packed malware executables and can handle an UPXed file even if it has been modified manually so that UPX cannot be used directly to unpack the file.

The UPX Unpacker also supports unpacking files packed using various UPX scramblers which make UPX-ed files not unpackable: Advanced UPX Scrambler, UPoLyX, UPX Lock, UPX Mutanter, and more.

The Plug-in Manager lists all the plug-ins that Resource Tuner has. When this is open, you can set priority for a selected plug-in. Larger values have greater priority, zero disables the plug-in and marks it red.
